The Department of Government Efficiency...DOGE...Is Tasked To Look For Financial Corruption and Wrongful Spending, and It Has Hit the Mother Load Here In the USA's Halls of Government!
Go to town, DOGE, go to town on it!!
Our governing representatives in America are constantly being approached by those wanting assistance with various interests they are pursuing. That's allowed. That's normal. Breaking the law to obtain your business or financial goals in not allowed, but trying to persuade government entities to support your personal or business interest causes is allowed and it's normal...the governments of all nations have this as one of their functions. And so the people we elect to our representative government are always making moral and ethical and value judgments about the proposals of entities that come to them asking for assistance or approval. We should pray for our representatives to be strong against the temptation to accept favors or bribes during this process because those approaching them for aid in reaching their aims will sometimes be offering such illegal things. But...even though we are aware of the many temptations that come with power and the ability to distribute tax money...it is still a very good thing to kick government servants out of office and jail them if they succumb to temptation and break the law, and we must do the same to whoever offered the bribe or sought the illegal advantage. That's the advice of the Biblical books of wisdom and they are from God! He knows how things should work. Consider Ecclesiastes 8:11 for one example :
11 When the sentence for a crime is not quickly carried out, people’s hearts are filled with schemes to do wrong.
End Quote
There can be mercy when pronouncing the severity of a sentence for a crime. But if you fail to prosecute the crime in the first place, that constitutes the commission of yet a second crime because nearly all crimes victimize either someone or some relied-upon institution; so what about justice for that 'victim'? It comes through prosecution of the crime!
When some highly principles entity jumps in and begins cleaning house against crime and corruption in an honest manner, it is to every decent well-meaning citizen's benefit to stand back and let them do their work. It really does become a case of "If you are against the solution it probably really does mean that you're part of the problem or benefit from the current corrupted situation." 'House cleaning', done honestly, is wonderful. God bless everyone who takes part in it with honest and good intent. The guilty will always fearfully call it a 'witch hunt'. Big deal if cleaning up genuine corruption is declared a 'witch hunt' by the guilty and their associates. The guilty will always say "I was just doing what everyone else does." Big deal. If they were a specific fish hunted down and struck by an archer, they begin to have a case. But if they are just one of many fish caught when a net came along...well, nets don't play favorites. And not all fish in the same school will get caught by every net. But you don't throw fish back in the sea because of that!
Getting caught and convicted is a deserved fate for the corrupted officials and the one who offered the bribe or proposed the schemes, it is justice for the populace whose tax money and natural resources were misused (because the representatives are pledged to be good stewards of such resources) and it scares others who are thinking of doing the same misguided sort of thing! For so long as God leaves human government in human hands he will probably be wanting to see us emulate His thoughts and values in the structure and actual administration of those governments. So anyone rooting out corruption and criminal behavior from government is the buddy and pal of every citizen subject to that government, in so far as the act of cleaning up the government is concerned. So if it's members of your favorite political party doing it, that's very, very good. But if it's members of some other political party that is doing it...that's still very, very good. A rising tide lifts all boats! A cleaned swimming pool benefits all swimmers! Cleaner air benefits all breathers. And the Holy Spirit that proceeds forth from the Father deserves a clean and grateful society so it can more readily convey its many blessings to that people and that land.
Most citizens acknowledge the need for high standards for ourselves and our governments even while knowing we can't or don't always live up to them. Sometimes high standards will turn around and bite the very person that proposed they must be lived by. That's life. We all know we need high standards. And I know I'm going to fall short of them at times even if I'm the one spouting off about their importance. On a spiritual level, that's why I have no hope without the Atoning Blood and kingship of Jesus the Christ, my Savior. On this earthly level, I know I am subject to the laws of my nation, those laws have teeth, and I fear those laws. I need to follow them anytime they don't prevent me from obeying Jesus. Even Jesus said to 'render to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's '. But if you ever have to choose between the two, the Christian is to obey God over government. Government is our lawful authority...under God.
Our governing persons are not our gods. They are intended to be our servants, carrying out the citizen's will and being caretakers of their needs, understanding that because they sought a higher position among men, more is expected of them. And I believe that the United States has been abundantly blessed with political representatives who see their post as a chance to shine for their God respecting people in a God respecting manner. That's a high standard, but I believe we have many government representatives who see themselves somewhat in that light. And that makes us a lucky nation to whatever extent that is true.
No nation can long survive wholesale thievery and corruption by its principal figures. America has reached that level of corruption...the nation destroying level...but, amazingly, there is a group trying to turn that around. And there is also a young generation coming into their own that does not seem to be as prone to accepting corruption. And more parents are teaching morals and ethics to their children again. It's almost like a return to Christian standards. Has Jesus provided hope to our troubled American land just when we need it so badly? We'll have to see if we can keep the ball rolling, but SOMETHING GOOD almost seems to be happening. Kudos and God's blessings to those fighting any battle for a return to Christian principled government and the sort of honest stewardship of public resources that Jesus could approve of. Some like to call it naivete to expect that...but some of those calling it naivete are the very ones that would like it to be hypocritical and corrupt so they can benefit from it. Government DOES have to deal with entities that have their own self interests in mind before all else...such entities exist and they constantly seek beneficial situations. But if a government deals swiftly and decisively with those seeking advantage outside of the officially provided channels then those advantage-seeking entities, for the sake of their own self interests once again, will seek advantage through the provided and legal channels to avoid penalties and jail time. A government that takes corruption very seriously will have very little corruption, and that world is better for everyone.
Proverbs 29:4 "By justice a king gives a country stability but those who are greedy for bribes tear it down."
There really are times in the life of a nation (if they are lucky!) when someone gains control of the government and decides that a great 'house cleaning' must take place. Dishonest officials are an ancient problem, after all. Several ancient Biblical king of Israel were famous for being great reformers of their backslidden people, the Israelites. Honest and high minded people often seek positions in government because they consider it an honorable way to serve their people. But crooked people are also drawn to positions of power and to wealth...drawn very strongly, in fact. We mostly all agree that both things are true, right?
There is an ancient example, from the writings of Herodotus, for instance, of a king, Cambyses II of Persia who was the son of King Cyrus the Great (530 to 522 B.C.), finding out that one of his nation's judges named Sisamnes had taken a bribe in return for rendering a crooked judgement. The king, knowing the necessity of having righteous and honest courts to a healthy and stable kingdom, had Sisamnes arrested and skinned alive as a punishment and an example, and then he had human leather made from this man's skin. Then he had a craftsman cover the seat of a judge's chair with this leather. Then he decreed that the son of the man who had been skinned alive would be the next judge, and would sit upon that very chair each day as he judged cases for the kingdom. So, each day that younger judge, the son of disgraced Sisamnes, would take a seat upon the skin of his very own father, a man who had been found unworthy to be a judge, and that younger judge would be reminded of the fate that befalls a crooked judge. That is recorded as the true story of how one ancient king dealt with corruption. Cambyses II was, by the way, the son of the same King Cyrus who defeated mighty Babylon, met the prophet Daniel (from the Biblical book of Daniel) and then later freed the captive Jews. This is how one ancient king dealt with one certain instance of corruption. A fairly strict response to a corrupted official, but one can guess that the son of Sisamnes had many, many hundreds of moments when he gave thought to the leather of the chair he sat upon.
In such a strict environment as mentioned above officials, good and bad, would know it was wise to avoid corruption. But where corruption pays well, is pretty easy to hide, and is wide spread anyway, you could expect many to engage in it. There are laws and punishments because there is sin and temptation in the human heart! Which person is totally innocent of these faults? We genuinely have to have punishments for crime or else crime will become common place and accepted as just the way the world is. But, if just laws are enacted and strict punishments meted out crime is much more rare and the people of that land are a far more wholesome people and God might more easily bless that nation. Good things flow from just and righteous and God fearing laws that are strongly and fairly enforced. They are a blessing to the whole land.
So we have this newly created DOGE department established in the United States and to the extent they shine their search light fairly and fully in all directions, it can only be a great blessing to the American people...a chance for us as a nation claiming to trust in God to clean house and fire, maybe jail, the crooked perpetrators found to be involved in the financial malfeasance. We can also greatly curtail the horrible waste of money.
If this DOGE investigation is done thoroughly and well the people on that team, and all who formed the team, and all who fully cooperated with the team are truly owed the gratitude of our nation. But just as demons will only be cast out protesting and screaming as if enduring mistreatment, it is the same with large numbers of corrupted officials. They want to survive this storm. They don't want to be exposed. They don't want to lose their crooked gains or undeserved prestige, they are loathe to be shamed in front of their friends and family. But it is best for the nation if they are sent packing.
There is nothing but good to be had in trying to root out the corruption and begin again with restored, or better yet...higher!... ideals and expectations. It is a never ending war, but a war where the 'good guys' simply have to win some big important battles from time to time or the nation is lost and despoiled by criminals forever. Once any nation's levers of power are all controlled by corrupted criminal conspirators there is no way to restore that situation, no way to reform that nation. The US is close to that point of no return and we simply have to eliminate the grift and thievery and sloppy money handling as thoroughly as we can for both ourselves and out of respect to our Lord Jesus. Should any Christian nation be a den of iniquity? And here before us is a beautiful opportunity for national self improvement. It seems almost Heaven sent. Every US citizen of whichever political leaning will benefit if this house cleaning is done fairly and thoroughly. And other nations may see and decide to do the same within their borders. May Jesus Himself guide the people making the effort. They are heroes in theory...may they be heroes in fact and deed! God smiles upon what God knows to be justice, and those who administer genuine justice may possibly receive the privilege of knowing His great favor!
We all sin, but that doesn't mean sin is OK. It means we are all not OK. We all desperately need Jesus so we can get right with God. But even as we must have some level of compassion for the sinner, we also have to root out the sin so it doesn't rot us out as a people and cause us to be odious to our Maker. We have to teach all of our people from our youngest days to do what is right and pleasing to God, and to treat wrongdoing as unacceptable. A good parent, seeing their child act wickedly or be disobedient, may understand that that is part of how humans are. But they still have to correct the child and teach them to do better. It's similar with establishing and maintaining justice in a nation, with weeding out corruption in your government. It has to be done. It's a healthy process, and all political parties in the US, all voters, all citizens of the US should be delighted to see it, despite that the process is not easy or painless. Every loss for corruption is a loss for Satan and a win for God, and vice versa.
We humans deliver far too few victories for our God, to our shame. But here, in the USA in the year 2025 A.D., is an opportunity to deliver one to Him. And we should act with force and purpose. When He has to stand to attain His own victories because we are half-hearted sluggards who only play at making things right, whenever He has become tired of watching us pretend to try, then He acts directly if He so chooses, taking matters into His own hands and then woe to humanity as great and terrible but fully deserved judgments are meted out upon all of us - the ones who did bad things and the ones who stood by and let them.
Proverbs 10:26 "As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to them that send him."
Wise children will do all they can to avoid the necessity for God to rise and remedy the situation himself! Our God is just and merciful and kind and loving, but only the foolish dare push Him too far. His patience definitely has limits. Simply put, Noah and Lot had a better knowledge, a clearer first hand perspective on why you don't anger God with wicked behavior, and we want to learn our lesson from their lesson! We serve ourselves best by drawing from the cautionary examples handed down to us by those who have angered God the Father Almighty and seen His wrath with their own eyes. He has destroyed almost all life on this planet before...remember? He let Jerusalem and all of Israel be wiped out badly in around 70 A.D. and those were His 'chosen people.' There are a lot of accounts about God's power here on the Deeds of God website, and it is power such as we can't imagine, held in check only by His mercy and forbearance, not by our innocence and track record of excellent behavior! So, when we have a chance to get our situation somewhat cleansed and corrected by our own efforts, the work of this DOGE team looking to be such an occasion, you take it if you are wise, and make the most of it. The Bible is full of times that humans forgot that God was always watching and of how they payed the price for it. And in case we should get comfortable in thinking God doesn't care about corruption that much...God actually has had a lot to say to us about how He views corruption verses righteousness. Below is only a small sampling from His word:
Proverbs 14:34 "Righteousness exalts a nation, But sin is a disgrace to any people."
Proverbs 29:12 "If a ruler listens to lies, all his officials become wicked."
Proverbs 29:4 "By justice a king gives a country stability, but those who are greedy for bribes tear it down."
Proverbs 15:27 "The greedy bring ruin to their households, but the one who hates bribes will live."
Proverbs 10:2 "Treasures gained by wickedness do not profit, but righteousness delivers from death."
Proverbs 17:23 "The wicked accept bribes in secret to pervert the course of justice."
Proverbs 21:15 "When justice is done it brings joy to the righteous but terror to evil doers."
So, yes, God cares about all types of wickedness, personal and national corruption being among those types. We Americans should cheer on these reform efforts we're seeing today in 2025. We need to watch them some, because the Devil will try to corrupt everything and anything, even such efforts as these, but still...when wickedness receives a setback it's a beautiful thing to see! When a nation takes measures to get its behavior right with God and goodness, it's a thing to be cheered...watched vigilantly, but cheered!
